Danny Freeman

Great music is no secret to Florida guitarist Danny Freeman. Over the last several years, the acoustic rock singer-songwriter has taken his love for music to a new level. Danny dove into the music world headfirst, releasing his debut album All the People at age 17. After performing for a year as a solo artist and promoting his music over the internet, he was offered a front page featured artist spot on mtvU’s Best Music On Campus website, where three months later, he was nominated for an MTV Woodie Award.

Danny has teamed up with a group of talented musicians at the University of Michigan and started taking live performances to a new level. The band has become a well-known campus act, playing at several major venues for large audiences. Danny and his band have also been invited guest artists to Spring Break in Acapulco.

The love this young artist has for music does not end at his live shows. He is devoted to the entire musical process, which shows in his first record. All the People is an independent release, written, recorded, and produced by Danny. “It was more of an experiment than anything,” he says, but the response he received drove him to continue down the musical path.

With inspirations ranging from James Taylor and John Mayer to Imogen Heap and Mute Math, Danny pulls in a huge chunk of the musical spectrum into his own songs. “We are getting to an age where there is so much talent in albums that it’s hard to find a record without redeeming musical qualities… My own taste brings me from mainstream and indie rock to rap and metal, which I think influences my guitar licks and vocal phrasing consistently.” It is not hard to see how this young artist can create music that many can enjoy.

Danny’s own songs on his first record range in emotion and message from the acoustic, calm, and contemplative “Wise One,” to the self-examining “Choices,” as well as upbeat songs “Eraser” and “Discombobulated,” and even to a new rock sound for the killer tune “Take It Back.” His musical appreciation for James Taylor is showcased by covering the classic “You Can Close Your Eyes” as the last track on the album. His new album Second to Dream is slated for release in the winter of '08.
